Montenegro is the smallest country from all those that have been formed after the fall of Tito?s Yugoslavia. It covers the area of 13 812 km? and has 681 000 residents. Its capital is Podgorica in which lives one third of its entire population, whilst the old capital of the church and kings is Cetinje. The coast of the Adriatic Sea on the Montenegrin territory from Ulcinj to Igalo is 293.5 km long. Montenegro has three characteristic relief-climate regions. Those would be Coast, Central and Mountain region or the so called North. The dominant religion is Orthodox Christianity for 75% of the population (Montenegrins and Serbs), then Muslims (12%), Catholics and atheists (1%). The incomes come from the industry and mining (35%), tourism (30%), traffic (15%), agriculture and forestry. The air traffic with the main European cities runs through the airports in Podgorica and Tivat. The network of roads has covered the entire space, whist the railroad has done it only partially. Montenegro on a small geographical space represents an authentic cornucopia of natural varieties. Political circumstances are stabile so it is suitable for a shorter or a longer stay. |
