| Tara is a typical mountain river with a maximum water temperature of 11?C. It is the longest Montenegrin river (140 km), and begins near the border with Albania and ends on the very border with Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The water is very pure and rich with oxygen, and therefore it is populated with precious fish species, such as trout, the huchen or Danube salmon and grayling. During spring (April-May) when the snow is melting form the Durmitor range, Tara is a wild river, in rafting category from 4 to 6. During the summer months, in the Tara River bed there is considerably less water, and therefore, rafting, in the category from 2 to 3, looks as a little adventure without risk. The patron of the Tara River and its Gorge is NP Durmitor, under which regulations are organized tourist activities, sport fishing, collecting wood, etc. |
